Hey guys, not every instrument is clipping on this recording, think you can turn it up a little? I think you’re going for complete white noise, but I can accidentally hear some instruments under it. Oh really cool album title too. I know you’re all in your 30s, but names like that got a little corny in the past decade.
My Disco – Paradise
April 22, 2008Wow, when did this band get so bad? 39 minutes of the drummer playing the kick drum in a straight rhythm while a gitar feeds back and the bass plays the same note. Seriously, one of the worst records I’ve ever heard, and I loved this band’s old records.
Faraquet – The View From This Tower
April 10, 2008One upon a time there was a Dischord band named Faraquet. They were criminally underrated. They broke up and are some percentage of Medications now. If you like Fender guitars and spazzy drums you’ll love the fuck out of this.
Brainworms – Demo
April 10, 2008This is the best hardcore band around. They do a cover of “For Want Of” by Rites Of Spring, if that means anything. They toured and played constantly in 2006 and 2007, and I hope they keep it up this year.
i’m back
April 7, 2008Sorry I took a break for a bit. Your positive comments gave me inspiration to take a well needed vacation. I’ll be back tomorrow with more good music. No more hipster shit like Man Man, that was a big mistake. You realize over a thousand people downloaded that?
Elder – Elder
March 27, 2008Sorry for the break. This has members of Towers and Balboa, and I remember when they formed they immediately “signed” to Forge Again, a washed up metalcore label. I would love to review this, but I can’t listen to it without being driven completely insane by the single kick and snare drum sample that plagues these 3 songs. Seriously, it never lets up. Its especially hilarious when the drummer does double kick rolls. There is no variation in the samples, just nonstop click click snap, click click click click click snap snap. Sometimes the guitars turn off the distortion, but the samples don’t let up. Not recommended. A failure, at best.
Man Man – Rabbit Habits
March 19, 2008I played a show with these guys about 2 years ago and they were lame. They dressed in all white and asked for money to stay in a hotel. I didn’t realize they were on the verge of blowing up. I also had no idea that so many 16 year old girls lived in my city until they played. Hordes of them, man.
Anyway this album isn’t bad. Its good to take a nap to or something.
Algernon Cadwallader – Some Kind Of Cadwallader
March 18, 2008I get tired of this guy’s voice after 2 or 3 songs. I think he has 4 notes in his whole bag of notes. I appreciate the yelling but even that drains on you after a while. Anyway here it is, brand new full length from these dudes in 320cbr. It sounds very good and I’m sure everybody is going to put it on their top 10 of 2008 lists that nobody reads. You got it here first.
Small Brown Bike – Our Own Wars
March 16, 2008If you don’t already have this you’re fucked. Good quality (V0). Their new stuff sucks.
Capsule – Blue
March 14, 2008Capsule’s last.fm page is a shame. I imagine when they started out they didn’t think their little hardcore band was going to be competing with some asian techno bologna. They’ll never be able to add their music to a last.fm player
Robotic Empire is pissed this leaked. Oh yeah this shreds, especially the end of track 4.
Antlers – Antlers
March 14, 2008Antlers have some dudes from a lot of bad screamo bands. Luckily nobody screams in this band, and nobody cries. Its rather happy. Theres lots of guitar noodling and lots of distorted bass and lots of snare drum rolls, but it doesn’t sound like a typical “post rock” band. This is just instrumental rock and roll.
Kaki King – Dreaming Of Revenge
March 14, 2008This album has some special feature where, once you start listening, you don’t want to listen to anything else until the whole thing is over.
Real Short Reviews Redux
March 14, 2008This is now my outlet for music sharing. I have permission to link to all files that I’ve linked to on here.
Witches With Dicks – Manual
March 9, 2008Best punk record of 2007? Its possible. Everything about this recording is noisy in all the right ways. The vocals are slurred in a deep gruff, the bass is dirty, the guitars are raunchy, the drums sound like they got slammed to analog tape, and there aren’t any clap-a-longs. You know how Alkaline Trio’s Goddamnit was sort of perfectly recorded for its sound? This is the same way.
Ampere – The First Five Years
February 9, 2008I honestly didn’t think they would ever put out a discography CD. Ampere is easily one of my favorite hardcore bands. Ampere and Brainworms are both blurring the lines between hardcore and emo and punk rock and they both get me super pumped about playing music in a band. This collects all their splits (by the way they’ve done every inch from a 3″ CD to a 12″ record) and their demo that were never available on CD.
OiNK.cd
October 18, 2007The future of music promotion: filling requests over with bad mp3 copies that get deleted in 15 minutes. Repeat 10,000 times.
Dirty Money – Far From Home
October 14, 2007How to guarantee a spot on The Fest in Gainesville:
1. Start an atonal pop-punk band that has no defining characteristics
2. Write a song called “1 2 3 Fest!”
You see, there are 2 big reasons to start a band. You either have amazing songs in your head and want the world to hear them, or you want to entertain people with music that might not be original but is still fun. Now I love pop punk with gritty vocals, but for some reason bands like this seem more like U2 than Hot Water Music. I think “controlled” is the word I want to use?
The Wonder Years – Get Stoked On It
October 10, 2007I think a friend of mine recorded this. It seriously starts out sounding like a shitty mosh metal demo for a few seconds, but then it kicks into Saves The Day style vocals. Its OK. Overall I can tell there are a few people in this band that just can’t give up their Bridge 9 records. I’m betting its one of the guitarists. The guitars are tuned too low and the tone is muddy like its a low level Epiphone through a Marshall solid state. I’m also guessing their Myspace is full of really hot 17 year old girls with private profiles.
Nice People – Demo
October 9, 2007You can download this somewhere on the internet. I know I did. It sounds like a total throwback to intense 90s emo. Moody, lots of shouting, midrangey bass, spazzy start-stop style drums, etc.
