Algernon Cadwallader – Some Kind Of Cadwallader

press this

I get tired of this guy’s voice after 2 or 3 songs. I think he has 4 notes in his whole bag of notes.  I appreciate the yelling but even that drains on you after a while. Anyway here it is, brand new full length from these dudes in 320cbr. It sounds very good and I’m sure everybody is going to put it on their top 10 of 2008 lists that nobody reads. You got it here first.

eh, i feel you. this stuff ran out of steam in the late 90’s. it still may be good for those that werent around for it, but its not as good either.

personally i believe this band is genius. just because this still of music ran out in the late 90’s doesn’t mean it can’t still hold a candle in the new age of music. discrediting 90’s emo/indie for a comeback is like saying you can’t appreciate bands who clearly drive influence from 60’s british rock. same thing. we all draw from something we listened to as a child. and this band just so happens to get alot of it’s influence from bands like American Football and Hot Water Music. so who says thats a bad thing. besides, this band strives on DIY ( do it yourself) ethics, so of course their material isn’tr professional, MTV studio quality. but these raw recordings embrace a style of music that just got fucking lost in the basement of music the second 2000 rolled around. and all of the kids sporting Emery, and My Chemical Romance shirts, crowding the stages of Warped Tour have just no clue in hell that this style of music from the 90’s helped fueled the music scene they’re are now raping with their feel good radio friendly vibes and sick trendy attitudes, it makes me sick to my stomach. safe to say i’m fucking honored and blessed to know that a band like Algernon still exists to make honest, and real music. not this radio “my girlfriend broke up with me, whine whine” bullshit you hear now.

Super nice dudes. Super awesome tunage. Love this band.
Feels like a brand new Cap’n Jazz album

That’s because you don’t appreciate raw, 90s style emo. A definite shame.

His voice is perfect given the application. No one else sounds as close to Tim Kinsella’s quirky-yet-excellent voice.

I have to give props for the perfect cloning of Cap’n Jazz/American Football.. I know, it’s been said before, but when a band mirrors so absolutely completely another band, without advancing the agenda, it’s inevitable.

As far as treading a speck of new ground, one won’t find it on this album, but it’s an incredible introduction to an overlooked splinter of the indie rock vein. AC fans will find Cap’n Jazz, and that’s worth promoting this album. Cap’n Jazz is, it has to be said, far superior….more raw, less self-aware, and lyrically light-years ahead.

Yet, one cannot dislike this release if one truly loves the Kinsella brothers’ output. Until now, I’ve never understood the whole ‘cover band’ concept….thanks to AC, I totally get it. I’m also looking forward to the day they put down their own roots.
